“Glee” is turning its singing voice toward Maroon 5 and Beyonce's former girl group Destiny's Child. The cast member covering the groups will be none other than new fan favorite Darren Criss, a rep for the show confirms.
Blaine (Criss), Kurt (Chris Colfer) and the rest of the Dalton Academy Warblers will tackle the Destiny’s Child song “Bills Bills Bills” in the post-Super Bowl episode, airing Feb. 6. Later in the spring, Blaine and the Warblers will sing Maroon 5's “Misery,” co-creator Ryan Murphy told Rolling Stone.
“I'm friendly with Adam Levine, and he texted me saying, 'I think it's time we get Maroon 5 on "Glee."' I said, 'I agree, I think it'd be great,'” Murphy recalled. “I love that song, I love Adam's performance on that song, so we're doing that in an upcoming spring episode.”
As for whether the “Misery” performance will be featured in a romantic context between Blaine and Kurt, Murphy isn't sure. “We haven't written how the script, so I don't know if it will be romantic or not,” he said. Considering these lyrics, we're betting on something happening between the twosome: “Your salty skin and how / It mixes in with mine / The way it feels to be / Completely intertwined / It's not that I didn't care / It's that I didn't know / It's not what I didn't feel / It's what I didn't show”
Murphy also hinted to Rolling Stone that “Glee,” which scored a Grammy nomination for its regionals cover of Journey's “Don't Stop Believin',” may have a presence at the award ceremony. When asked if the cast might perform at the Grammys, Murphy responded, “We're talking to them. We would love to do 'Don't Stop Believin'' in some capacity.”
He also revealed that the show will be doing “a couple Michael Jackson songs this year,” with “Thriller” being the first one. And that rumor about Katie Couric singing “Tea For Two” in the Super Bowl episode? “No, that is not true,” Murphy said.
Readers, are you looking forward to the Maroon 5 and Destiny's Child covers? Would you like to see the cast perform at the Grammys? And what other Michael Jackson songs would you like “Glee” to cover?
