Remember the days when it felt like Ravinia Festival catered mostly to your parents? I do. Each year I would look at the concert schedule and recognize one or two names on the list -- and that's only because one of them was the band leader for "The Tonight Show."
Fortunately, the festival has added a little more variety to its lineup in recent years. Ravinia featured John Legend and Carrie Underwood in 2009 and Underwood, Nelly Furtado, Counting Crows and what's left of the Backstreet Boys in 2010.
The 2011 concert schedule was released this week and includes Underwood again (Sept. 4), Jennifer Hudson (July 16), Maroon 5 (June 30-July 1), Lifehouse (Aug. 20) and Five For Fighting with Michelle Branch (July 22).
And yes, there's something for the older crowd, including Tony Bennett (Aug. 26), Hall & Oates (June 26), Peter Frampton (July 5), Steely Dan (Aug. 12-13), and the Gipsy Kings (Aug. 25), who have performed at Ravinia so many times, I'm pretty sure they live on the festival grounds.
