Maroon 5's 'Payphone' Tops Adult Pop Songs Chart for Fifth Week, Dethroned Off Pop Songs

Where does Maroon 5 chart this week on the charts?

Maroon 5's "Payphone" single has been topping the Pop Songs, Radio Songs, and Adult Pop Songs charts for over five week now. But this coming sales week, on Billboard.com, according to Neilson SoundScan, pop star Katy Perry dethrones the band's Overexposed lead single, featuring Wiz Khalifa. Katy Perry's second single "Wide Awake" from the Teenage Dream: Complete Confection album has gave her her ninth number-one on the Pop Songs chart, apparently tying up with singer Rihanna for the most number-one's on that chart in Billboard's 56-year history.

However, over on the Billboard Adult Pop Songs chart, Maroon 5 tops the chart for a fifth week in a row with "Payphone." The song first debuted at number thirteen on the chart eleven weeks ago. This marks' the group's biggest Adult Pop songs in their music career. Also, the band's new single "One More Night" debuts on the Adult Pop Songs chart this coming sales week at number thirty. They currently have two singles on the tally as well as on the Billboard Hot 100.

Music Mondays: Tristan Prettyman Returns to Radio with 'My Oh My' Single

Hey guys! We are doing a new weekly blog every Monday called 'Music Mondays. Other bands and artists on Twitter and other social networks are becoming more fluent in the subject, helping promote up and coming or undiscovered talents who's music is more relevant to their sound and what might their fans like.

Last week, we introduced the up-and-coming rap pop artist who made it to the finals on The X Factor last year, mister Chris Rene. For more on him go click here to check him out! This week we are bringing a San Diego, California native to the table. Born Tristan Prettyman on May 23, 1982, she first stormed the adult radio scene in 2005 with her debut major label record, Twentythree. In 2006, it was announced that Jason Mraz had engaged Prettyman, but the knot was broken in 2010 after an interview Mraz had with a celebrity magazine. She released her second album, titled Hello, on April 15, 2008 and stormed the charts peaking at No. 27 on the Albums chart.

She is releasing her first album in four years this year, on September 25, titled Cedar and Gold. The album's lead single "My Oh My" was released earlier this summer and has been in the top ten on the charts on iTunes Store ever since. It is seeking success on adult contemporary radio and she is finally gaining her ground as a musician.

One More Night - Live It, Feel It, Request It

Maroon 5 has been in the game for over a decade now, since their issue of Songs About Jane in 2002, and their breakthrough hits "This Love" and "Harder to Breathe" began earning credit. 'Payphone' Serves Third Week Atop Pop Songs Chart

Maroon 5's single "Payphone", featuring Wiz Khalifa, seems to be seeking success atop the charts in the recent weeks leading to today. This week, the pop-rap song 'dials' in at No. 1 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart. Over on the Radio Songs chart the tune rings up another No. 1 for a fourth week respectively. On the Billboard Hot 100, the "Call Me Maybe" singer, Carly Rae Jepsen still tops the tally while Maroon 5 sits back at No. 2 for a sixth consecutive week with "Payphone." On the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart, it moves up 29-25, descends 5-7 on the Digital Songs chart, stationary at No. 6 on the Ringtone Chart, stays at No. 11 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Songs chart, and completes atop the Billboard Adult Pop Songs... at No. 1 (making "Payphone" rally up three nu-ones this week.)

The band's second Overexposed single, "One More Night" slowly creeps up the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart moving 86-82. It also debuts this week on the Billboard Pop Songs chart at No. 38! The song moves 56-52 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 chart after spending five weeks on the tally.

Billboard's newly published 'Songs of the Summer' chart has been up for eight weeks and Maroon 5's single "Payphone" has not moves one bit staying at No. 3 for the eighth week, falling behind Gotye's hit "Somebody That I Used to Know", featuring up and coming female singer Kimbra, and of course... Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" single topping it at No. 1.

The band's fourth album, Overexposed, released fresh on the market on June 26th, spends it's fourth week on the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart falls a harsh 5-10 (as reported yesterday on our blog). However, it seems to be seeking success on the U.K. Official Albums chart moving 3-2 on the tally. And last but never least, on the Digital Albums chart the album falls 4-11.

Overexposed Falls 5-10 on Billboard 200 on Fourth Week

Maroon 5 has spent four weeks in the top ten of the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and may be slipping out of the top ten soon. This week it falls a hard 5-10 on the tally marking the biggest fall in the top thirty on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Maroon 5's debut set, Songs About Jane, which was released on June 5, 2002, spent two week in the top ten at it's time peaking at number-two on the Billboard 200. The band's second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, debuted atop the chart making it the band's first number-one platinum selling record. Their secodn studio effort spent six weeks in the top ten. Frank Ocean's new album, Channel Ocean, was released last week and topped charts over seas and has seen huge success, but however country group Zac Brown Brand kicks him to number-two with their new album Uncaged. Also, making Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, and Maroon 5 fall out of the top three on the Billboard 200.

Maroon 5's fourth album, Overexposed, debuted and peaked at number-two a couple of weeks ago while Linkin Park took the top spot with their new album, Living Things. Maroon 5's 'Payphone' Holds Fifth Frame on Hot 100

Maroon 5 promotional single cover for "Payphone."

Maroon 5's single "Payphone", featuring rapper Wiz Khalifa, has been dancing in the top ten on the charts for 13 weeks and has yet to peak at number-one. The song currently holds at number-two on the Billboard Hot 100 and will spend a fifth frame, meaning a fifth week in a row, at the same position. That's the most weeks a single has spent at number-two (without hitting No 1) since Carly Rae Jepsen's single "Call Me Maybe" held steady on the Hot Airplay charts earlier this year.

The band is three weeks deep in the release of their fourth CD Overexposed, and the album has peaked at number-two on the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart and hit the No. 1 token on the Digital Albums chart. The album's sales price on Amazon.com went down to $4.99 so that's said to garentee a spot in the top five for a third sale week. It currently sits at number-four. The charts update fresh tomorrow morning on Billboard.com.

Adam Levine Says 'We Needed to Change to Carry on Being Successful' on Overexposed

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine says the band's renewed success is due in part to him giving himself a "reality check" and stepping back from trying to control everything while making their new album 'Overexposed'.

The singer says the band are "much more clear" as a group now that he has relinquished some control over the music, and says Maroon 5 needed that change in order to carry on being a successful band.

"We were due a change," Adam told the Daily Star this week. "I used to be very controlling of the writing process before, but me checking my ego at the door has proved to be for the better. "Who we are is much more clear as a band now."

Maroon 5 released their latest album 'Overexposed' last month, and 'One More Night' star Adam says the group had been disappointed with the performance of their 2010 release 'Hands All Over' and changed their focus as a result.

"That was a disappointment," Adam also told Q magazine. "I blame, partially, myself because my ego was getting in the way. "I wanted to be at the helm of every aspect of every tiny thing," he explained. "It got to the point where there was a really good reality check. This record was struggling so, you know, what can we do differently."

James Valentine 'more focused than we've ever been' On Planned Fifth Album

James Valentine (left) and Adam Levine (right).
As announced last week, pop rockers Maroon 5 are already planning a fifth studio album in the next year, planning to hit the studio and record "more of our ground base material, like our IWBSBL and SAJ era." James Valentine, guitarist of the group and co-writer for the band's newest hit "One More Night", released a statement earlier last week stating that him and crew were "most focused than we've ever been."

"I think we're more focused than we've ever been, and all we really are interested in doing now is working on music. Usually we'd be on tour and have fun and come back home and use that time to make a record. Now I think we're just at a point where we feel like there's more music in us than that. I always have my laptop with my recording interface, and there's usually always a few things I'm working on at any given point. So, yeah, we're working on a lot of stuff. I think the next recording's going to be ready a lot sooner than our previous records. We will definetly be touching base on our more gorund base material, like our IWBSBL and SAJ era."
- James Valentine billboard.com.

The band is currently two singles in, and working on releasing a third, into their new album, Overexposed, released fresh off the market June 26th with the lead single "Payphone", featuring Wiz Khalifa, topping the Billboard Pop and Radio Songs charts and "One More Night" climbing its way up the Billboard Hot 100. 'Payphone' Continues To Take Over Pop & Radio Songs Chart, Overexposed Slips On Digital Albums Chart

Maroon 5's new CD Overexposed debuted on the charts last week with it's number-two entry on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and it's reign atop the Digital Albums sales chart. This week the album takes a hard-hit... falling 1-6 on the Digital Albums chart. The album slips only two spots, as mentioned yesterday on our blog, to No. 4 on the Top 20 Albums chart. However, it is looking better for the pop rock quintet this album release while their 2010 Hands All Over issue debuted at No. 2 and fell out of the top ten within two week of it's release.

The band's Overexposed lead single "Payphone", featuring Wiz Khalifa, remains at a standstill at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The song returned to it's peak last week moving up 3-2 beating out Gotye's hit "Somebody That I Used to Know", featuring up-and-coming artist Kimbra. The track seeks success over on the Pop Songs, On-Demand Songs, and Radio Songs charts... as it tops all three of them for a second consecutive week in a row. This is Maroon 5's second number-one pop single in the past 8 months with their 2011 hit single release of  "Moves  Like  Jagger", featuring Christina Aguilera, which spent four non-consecutive weeks atop the Hot 100 last fall. Plus, the 'payphone' tune debuts on the (unexpected) Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart dating at number-thirty two. And over on the Digital Songs chart, the single stays at No. 3.

The second single from the new CD titled "One More Night", which came out June 19, first debuted at No. 42. For it's third week on the Hot 100 it fell to No. 83. So close to another top 40 hit boys, so close. Maybe they will have luck with their upcoming third single "Daylight", which is set to be released later this fall for contemporary radio.

Overexposed Slides 2-4 On Billboard Albums Chart, Chris Brown Takes Over

Maroon 5's official album art cover for 'Overexposed.'
Maroon 5 's long awaited fourth CD came out out two weeks ago for the world to see and as far as reviews go, the album has shown moderate success. The pop-influenced album shows a different moderate success, however, than the band's third CD, Hands All Over, released in September 2010, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and fell hard at No. 10 by the second week. Overexposed debuted last week at No. 2 on the tally, but falls only two spots to No. 4 in it's second week. Justin Bieber's new album, Believe, makes a standstill at No. 3 and Kenny Chesney makes an appearance at No. 2 with Chris Brown's new album, Fortune, the follow-up to his 2011 No. 1 titled F.A.M.E, debuting atop the chart. Overexposed sold 68,000 copies in it's second retail week. Hands All Over's second week in sales only sold 17,000 copies.

It's also no doubt that Chris Brown's new number-one appearance on the chart this coming sales week has also garenteed a spot atop the Billboard Digital Albums chart, possibly pushing Overexposed back only a spot to No. 2, as it did top the tally last week, entering at number-one. The album's lead single "Payphone", featuring Wiz Khalifa, remains at No. 3 on the Digital Songs chart and stays at number-three on the Billboard Hot 100. Whether it will continue atop the Radio Songs chart and Pop Songs charts will be confirmed this Thursday (July 12).

The band recently confirmed that they would be touring the U.S. early next year throughout the year across the States. Ticket sales will be up this coming fall! Look out for them! For upcoming shows check out www.maroon5.com/shows!

'Payphone' Tops Billboard On-Demand Singles Chart

Maroon 5 attending the 2012 Grammy Awards in February, 2012.

Maroon 5 has blasted on to the scene this week charting big with their fresh, off-the-market fourth studio release, Overexposed, which came out June 26th. Overexposed topped the Billboard Digital Albums chart this week and fell shortly behind the number-one claimers Linkin Park this week at number-two on the U.S. Billboard 200 Albums chart (Linkin Park's Living Things topped the chart). And the pop rock quintet may not have the top spot on the albums chart, but the group most definitely topped a few other charts this week.

The band's 'Overexposed' lead single "Payphone", featuring Phili rapper Wiz Khalifa, showed up atop the Billboard Pop Songs chart moving 2-1. It also slipped 3-1 on the Billboard Radio Songs chart and moved 3-1 on the On-Demand Chart, making it the "best selling marketed single" to date. And yes, the band still currently holds the number-one place-holder on the Canadian Hot 100 singles chart. The band's 2011 number-one hit single "Moves Like Jagger" is surely seeking progress climbing back up the Billboard Digital Songs chart... jumping a whoppin' 58-42. And moving along the more recent terms, the band's second 'Overexposed' single "One More Night", the reggae-raving Benny Blanco-produced tune fell 12-31 on the Digital Songs chart and stayed at No. 62 on the Billboard's Top 100 singles chart.

The group's new pop-influenced record topped the Billboard Digital Albums chart and came in second on the Top 200 Albums chart. What next? The band's third album, their 2010 studio release Hands All Over, regained on the Billboard 200 chart jumping 115-37! That's nearly one-hundred placeholders. Good job boys!

Maroon 5 Planning 'Overexposed' Follow-Up Album

Though it's only two singles into the campaign, the highly collaborative experience of making its new album, "Overexposed," has Maroon 5 chomping at the bit to make its next album already.

"I think we're more focused than we've ever been, and all we really are interested in doing now is working on music," guitarist James Valentine tells Billboard.com. "Usually we'd be on tour and have fun and come back home and use that time to make a record. Now I think we're just at a point where we feel like there's more music in us than that. I always have my laptop with my recording interface, and there's usually always a few things I'm working on at any given point. So, yeah, we're working on a lot of stuff. I think the next recording's going to be ready a lot sooner than our previous records."

"Overexposed," of course, is just at its starting point, with a No. 2 debut on this week's Billboard 200 chart and a second single, "One More Night," just out to follow the Wiz Khalifa-featuring hit "Payphone." Valentine credits co-writers and producers by Max Martin and Shellback with inspiring "One More Night," explaining, "We've wanted to do a reggae-influenced sort of track for a long time...and they came up with what I think was the perfect sense of the reggae feel with a beat that is very contemporary, and it's so much fun to play live." Shellback, he adds, is responsible for the tune's hook. "He was the one who came up with the 'Moves Like Jagger' whistle," Valentine says. "This is just another piece of ear candy like that. He's got some sort of mad genius for being able to create these little earworms that instantly get stuck in your head."

Despite the presence of myriad collaborators -- including Benny Blanco, Ryan Tedder, Mailbox, Sam Farrar and others -- Valentine considers "Overexposed" to have "actually more band collaboration than on any of the previous three records." That includes bassist Michael "Mickey" Madden stepping up to co-write three tracks, while Valentine shares credits for four and also co-produced three. "At this point, 10 years in, we had to switch it up and we needed some new inspiration," the guitarist explains. "At the beginning I think we were a bit territorial, thinking 'What does this mean for our roles?' and 'Are we just simply fulfilling the prophecy that everyone said from the moment we got on the scene that, oh, Adam (Levine) is going to go solo?' But it was really education for all of us to work with all these different writers and producers. We learned a lot of new tricks and got to see their processes...So it actually opened up more collaboration within the band."

Not on board at the moment, however, is original keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, who in March announced a hiatus from Maroon5 for "spiritual healing" and also to further his musical studies. "He wanted a break, and it's totally reasonable," Valentine says. "We've just worked really intensely ever since 'Songs About Jane' came out, and he's been playing music with Adam and Mickey since they were 13, so that's 20 years of playing music with the same guys and he just wanted some time to do some other stuff." Valentine says Carmichael's decision was amicable, and the group expects him to return for its next album.

Maroon5 begins touring in support of "Overexposed" on July 21 in Stateline, Nevada, it's only scheduled U.S. date so far. The group will play South America and Mexico this summer and the Pacific Rim and Australia during early fall, with a North American run expected later in the year.

Overexposed Tops Digital Sales in the U.S.

Maroon 5 sold hundreds of thousands of album sales this week with their new fourth studio released, Overxposed, which dropped on June 26th. The new Max Martin-produced album topped the Billboard Digital Albums sales chart leaving Linking Park's new electro-rock-fused album, Living Things, at number-two and making Justin Beiber's second studio set, Believe, to fall to number-four.

Over on the U.S Billboard 200 albums chart, the 'Overexposed' album fell short of the #1 spot falling at number-two while Linkin Park takes the top spot on the 200 albums chart and Bieber falls 1-3 with his 'Believe' album. 'Overexposed' had the second biggest sales week of the year (so far) on the Billboard charts without topping the albums' chart.

The band's 'Overexposed' lead single "Payphone" remands at number-two on the Billboard Hot. 100, while the second single from the album "One More Night" falls 42-62. Help Maroon 5 top the charts next week by heading over to iTunes Store and download their new album 'Overexposed.'

Maroon 5 Debuts At No. 2 With 'Overexposed'

Maroon 5's new album was highly predicted to top the album charts next week with their much-anticipated pop-fused fourth CD Overexposed, which was released on June 26, but it looks like it fell a few thousand sales behind Linkin Park's new released Living Things, which was released on the same day, which also debuted atop the Billboard 200 albums chart. Overexposed is predicted to sell over 200,000 sales by week's end while Linkin Park's album Living Things plans on making it to 240,000 sales by the end of the week, making it top the U.S. charts.
