James Valentine Says Next Album is to Sound 'Darker'
The Maroon 5 guitarist talks about Maroon 5's follow-up album to be more Songs About Jane-esque
Earlier today, Maroon 5 announced their big Honda Civic Tour this summer with Kelly Clarkson. Well it looks like with all the excitement going around James Valentine is spilling-the-beans on the pop rock outfit's newest album, their follow up to their 2012 album Overexposed, which dropped last June.
"The stuff we're working on now, it definitely has gone maybe a little darker in its sound, maybe back a little bit more to what we kind of did on Songs About Jane," James Valentine told MTV News. "But at this point we do have all kinds of different songs and it is early."
It's been almost a whole year since Maroon 5 released their pop-radio-friendly fourth studio album Overexposed and the album has so far spawned three No. 1 hit singles, being "Payphone", featuring Wiz Khalifa, "One More Night (which was No. 1 for 9 weeks on the Hot 100), and "Daylight" (No. 1 as of last week). Rumors circulated the web last month that the song "Love Somebody" was going to serve as the band's fourth single from the album, however it has not been confirmed.
Adam Levine is currently in the midst of his fourth season as a mentor/judge/coach on the NBC show The Voice. James Valentine is also busy writing and recording new material with his side project in super-group JJAMZ on their follow-up of Suicide Pact, released last July.
The 2013 Honda Civic Tour begins on August 1st in st. Louis, MS at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater with special guests Rozzi Crane and pop singer Kelly Clarkson. You can check out all of the tour dates here. Plus, purchase monitored tickets on Apr. 6th on www.livenation.com.
