Adam Levine called in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest this morning (Mon, June 16) upon the premiere of Maroon 5's highly anticipated new single, "Maps" to talk about the new single, working on the set with Keira Knightley on the film Begin Again, and possibly working with Gwen Stefani of No Doubt on the new Maroon 5 record.

Although the lyrics sound like it’s about not being able to get past a broken relationship,”I think it’s kind of about a lot of things,” Adam clarifies. “It’s complicated. It’s also kind of not giving up on things too. People go through a lot of things and get stepped on and step on others and we all make mistakes … It’s kind of more about not giving up on something, even though maybe you should.” Adam is “super excited” about the release of “Maps,” even though the band has put out great music since their 2002 debut. “Every time we release a single, it always feel like the first time,” he explains. “I always get those butterflies. I’m so excited. I feel like I’m releasing a baby into the world … a song baby."

And Adam is just as excited to release V, Maroon 5′s fifth album, which is set to drop in September. “It’s my favorite one that we’ve ever done,” he says. “Here’s the deal, I’m so excited about this album. Mostly because I think that what we always do with every record … it’s kind of everything we’ve ever done as a band musically. It’s kind of all of those things on this album. It’s what we used to sound like, it’s what we sound like now, it’s what we want to sound like tomorrow. It’s all those elements all combined to make one, I think, really great album. It’s more of an album … It’s a better listen than ever. I like it, but I made it."

Although Maroon 5 has been a band technically since 2002, Adam and the guys have been making music together since they were 15-years-old. But they weren’t always as cool and popular as they are now. “We were freshmen in high school, no girls would talk to us,” he jokes. “I had pimples all over my face. I was not cool, really, at all. And that’s when all of this started, and we’re still doing it. It blows my mind.” Adam also confirmed a rumor that has been going around about Maroon 5′s V album … that Gwen Stefani makes an appearance on it! “How do you know everything already?” he jokingly asked Ryan after some stammering. “I wanted it to be a surprise, but she is.” In addition to new Maroon 5 music, Adam is also making his movie debut in Begin Again with Keira Knightley, which is out June 27.
