Maroon 5 have returned with their new pop-glistened single "Maps", which was released last Monday, June 16 onto iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play, and to other online retailers the following day. After a week and a couple of days of being in birthed in to the world, the song has impacted radio airplay heavily and thus, has already made history. It was reported, according to Nielson SoundScan, that "Maps" made a record setting debut at No. 16 on the Billboard Adult Pop Songs chart with nearly 2,000 first-week plays on adult contemporary and lite rock radio stations in the U.S. which marks the best opening week for a song in the chart's 18-year history with Billboard and Nielson.
Not only did "Maps" achieve chart success on the Adult Pop Songs chart, but heading over to the Billboard Pop Songs chart, the Ryan Tedder produced tune debuted at No. 18 trying for the sixth best opening rank and the third best opening week ever with a total of 4,319 plays overall on the chart's 22-year history with Billboard. On other chart notes, "Maps" debuted at No. 14 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and at No. 12 on the Canadian Hot 100.
Internationally, "Maps" entered at No. 1 in South Korea on it's Gaon International chart, No. 15 on the Italian Hot 100, No. 50 in Australia, and at No. 53 on the Japan Hot 100.
On the Digital Songs chart, "Maps" debuts at No. 6 on the tally, selling approximately 138,000 copies within it's first week on online retailers (iTunes, Amazon, ect). In comparison to Maroon 5's 2012 hit single "Payphone", featuring Wiz Khalifa, which lead the band's last studio album, Overexposed, "Payphone" sold a whoppin' record-breaking 493,000 in first week sales. That's over 200 thousand less sales that the V lead single received this last week.
