Maroon 5's guitarist James Valentine talked with the people over at Billboard magazine earlier (Fri, July 18) about the band's highly anticipated fifth studio album, V. Valentine had spoken a few words about the band's collaboration with No Doubt's nothing-short-of-legendary lead singer Gwen Stefani and said "It's cool for all of us to have her on the record. And Adam won't shut up about how cool she is as a person. A lot of times when you meet your idols it's a letdown, but it's the opposite case with Gwen, apparently."
Also speaking up about working with producers Ryan Tedder ("Love Somebody", "Lucky Strike"), Benny Blanco ("Stereo Hearts", "Moves Like Jagger"), and even Sia Furler, who co-wrote the band's next feasible single "My Heart Is Open", he said "It was just sort of a workshop [..] Living here in Los Angeles we've known Sia for a long time, back from when she was just an artist, before her second act as, like, the most brilliant pop songwriter of all time, so it was really cool just to work with her," says Valentine. "Heart" actually features Stefani and was co-penned by Sia.
Maroon 5's newest album, V follows-up the band's 2012 studio album, Overexposed which raised the band's bar of defining pop music to an all-time-high with the pop-rap hit "Payphone", featuring rapper Wiz Khalifa, and the dance-pop influenced "Love Somebody." All of Valentine's work on the "overexposed" album has been described as it's most horrific or least favorited among fans, in which includes the tracks "Ladykiller" (a rebirth of the band's 2006 demo of "Pleasure Fucker"), "Fortune Teller" (a synth-heavy house tune), and "Tickets" (a disco-meets-pop earworm).
A few tracks have been confirmed from the band's upcoming album, which is set for a September 2 release date through Interscope Records; "Animals", the aggressive pop rock tune, and "My Heart is Open" featuring Gwen Stefani, the song that's suited best for arenas, being the most anticipated. And "Feelings" also being another.
