Maroon 5 unveil more details about V and reveal new songs: "Animals" and "Leaving California"

Maroon 5 unveiled more exhilarating news about their highly anticipated fifth full length studio effort, V which is set to impact online and music retail stores on September 1 and 2 through Interscope Records. In the biography portion of Maroon 5's newly designed and fan-friendly updated website, an insider has revealed not only new producers and major influences, but also confirms the Gwen Stefani-Sia collaboration and new song titles.

According the the article, a reggae influence similar to that of "One More Night"'s shows up on the “whoa-oh-ohs” of “Animals”: a lustful anthem driven by a booming, Soul II Soul-style hip-hop beat accompanied by it's catchy chorus: “Baby, I’m preying on you tonight / Hunt you down, eat you alive / Just like animals” which evokes the otherworldly melodies of Mike Snow.

Also in the bio, it is said that V also finds Maroon 5 returning to the dance-floor with the standout track “Feelings,” whose disco-meets-Michael Jackson groove, 4/4 EDM thump, and Daft Punk-style vocoders suggests “Moves Like Jagger” on robot steroids.

Another disco-driven dance-floor pop hit from Maroon 5? I'll take it.

The article talks about the band's much anticipating Gwen Stefani collaboration "My Heart Is Open", stating... “My Heart Is Open” reveals Maroon 5 at its most emotionally raw and direct: it features Levine’s passionate romantic testifying “I don’t need another lover / I want you” over a spare, heart-tugging piano ballad, building to a soaring chorus with subtle orchestration.

The band also revealed a never-before unheard of song title by announcing that “Leaving California" hearkens back to the classic M5 sound – the bittersweet yet catchy confessionals of heartbreak from Songs About Jane that propelled the band to fame in the first place. As such, V brings Maroon 5 full circle, moving strength to strength from the band’s vital beginnings to its ongoing rise – taking the listener down nostalgic and new paths alike to create the latest undeniable chapter in the M5 odyssey.
