Maroon 5 scored their 7th number-one hit single on the Billboard Pop Songs chart this week with "Animals", from their fifth studio album, V, which is, thus far, the only single from the album to top the tally. "Maps" - V's lead single - last peaked at No. 2 on the Pop Songs chart in September (it currently sits at No. 23 on the chart).
The last time Maroon 5 spent a week atop the Pop Songs chart was with the Overexposed hit single, "Daylight" which peaked atop the chart in January 2013. Overexposed spawned 3 No. 1 Pop hits - including "Payphone" featuring Wiz Khalifa, "One More Night" (which spent 9 weeks atop the Hot 100 in 2012), and "Daylight". "Love Somebody", Overexposed's fourth and final cut, only peaked at No. 2 on the Pop Songs chart.
Maroon 5 first scored their first No. 1 single on the Billboard Pop Songs chart with "This Love", from the band's debut effort - Songs About Jane - back in 2004. "She Will Be Loved", the third single from SAJ, went in the books as the band's second No. 1 hit on the tally.
Maroon 5's next single "Sugar" from the V album is set to be released to mainstream pop radio and top 40 contemporary radio on January 13, 2015. Adam Levine sponsored the single in a recent Nissan GT-R advertisement, which you can watch it here!
