10 Things You Didn't Know About Maroon 5

James and Adam on MTV after the premiere of "One More Night."
Rumors or not... here are 10 things that you may not of known about the guys of Maroon 5

Hardcore fans may know that Adam Levine was once with singer and actress Jessica Simpson or that he grew up and went to school with actor Jake Gyllenhaal. But do they know these next 10 things about the guys of Maroon 5?

1 . Adam Levine wrote "Nothing Lasts Forever" in a shower

It was one lonely evening in a shower at a hotel in BOSTON... that Maroon 5 front man wrote the hook for "Nothing Lasts Forever", and what would soon become Kanye's choice of chorus on his hit "Heard 'Em Say." After embarking on a 5 year venture through North America on tour in support of Maroon 5's sleeper hit Songs About Jane, Levine wrote and recorded some demos for a Jane follow-up. "Nothing Lasts Forever" ended up becoming a masterful power ballad on 2007's It Won't Be Soon Before Long, but not before it was used as the hook to Mr. West's "Heard 'Em Say" from his album Late Registration.

2. Ryan Dusick left due to an arm injury... AND was un-enthused by his record label

If you didn't know Maroon 5's first drummer was actually Los Angeles native Ryan Dusick, than you're probably not a hardcore fan. It's okay. Dusick was in Kara's Flowers prior to the insane success Maroon 5 had in 2002 and on. However, after being in the band for years and years on end, on a cold, dark day in September of 2006, Ryan decided to leave the band. For good. But why? He told press the next month that it was because of an arm injury in his left shoulder from playing baseball. But some sources say that the former drummer left due to his label, A&M at the time, not giving him the proper pay check. Uninterested in being in the band, new coming drummer Matt Flynn replaced him that year.

3. Adam Levine was a writers assistant for the show Judging Amy

In the late 1990's, Levine wasn't known quite yet for his brilliant lyricism and artistry just yet. He was actually a writer's assistant for the crew for the show Judging Amy. And no it wasn't for NBC. It was for CBS, actually. For the record, the show flopped in 2005.

4. Jane's name is not Jane?

While many believe that Maroon 5's successful debut release Songs About Jane was named after a girl named Jane, according to most (including Adam himself) carry on the thresh hold rumor that the girl's name was not actually Jane. Those who disagree may believe the album's name was inspired by Jane Herman, Adam's ex-girlfriend in which the songs on the record were intently written about. Except "Harder to Breathe", but we'll get to that later.

5. "Get Back In My Life" was actually dubbed "Stay Out of My Life"

You may already know this fact if you are indeed a hardcore "Marooner" but you know that groovy funk track on Maroon 5's third album, Hands All Over titled "Get Back in My Life"? Originally it was titled "Stay Out of My Life." In an exclusive behind-the-scenes look of the recording process of HAO in Switzerland from Rolling Stone, you can clearly hear singer Adam Levine state that the song's title was "Stay Out..." However, in a later Rolling Stone magazine interview, Jesse Carmichael said the name's change occurred after the band decided to have a more positive overall feel for the album. We agree, Jesse. But I still wonder what "Stay Out of My Life" would've sounded like. More aggressive, maybe?

6. "Harder to Breathe" is not about girls

As the album title suggests, many of the songs on it are about Jane, who is lead singer Adam Levine's ex-girlfriend. "Harder to Breathe", however, is not about Jane. It's about their record label, and how they put pressure on the band to make certain songs and put a record out. Levine thought the label was smothering them.

7. Overexposed had a "no guest vocalists" contract but MONEY changed that

You know that one tune "Payphone" featuring that ghastly bridge verse from rapper Wiz Khalifa? Well in the beginning, Maroon 5's 2012 album Overexposed was under a "no guest vocalist policy"  in late 2011 according to A&M. However, earlier that next year, Khalifa was offered by producer Benny Blanco to guest on "Payphone", but first had to find loop holes and break rules to make it happen. The song saw an insane amount of success becoming one of the top selling hits of 2012 and broke first-week sales records. What do ya know.

8. Jesse Carmichael has a solo project

Again, if you're a bigtime Maroon 5 fanatic, you may know that keyboardist and co-founder Jesse Carmichael has a music project of his own. But let's start from the beginning. In March 2012, Carmichael addressed that he would be taking a temporary vacation from the band to pursue his passion for "spiritual healing" and to later pursue a solo project. In the summer of 2012, he founded indie pop act 1863 where he has released several demos, EP's with former members of Oasis and Phantom Planet, and a Christmas song. It's pretty rad. Jesse said he was to return to the band after touring in support of Overexposed was finished. So where is he?

9. James Valentine quit his band Square to play guitar in Maroon 5

It was a night in downtown Los Angeles where Maroon 5 played an intimate show for L.A. locals and where James Valentine eventually was swept away from his band to pursue a career with Maroon 5. Valentine, originally in the jazz fusion band Square, was opening for Maroon 5 at a nightclub one night and Levine and Dusick ended up stealing James from his own band. Literally. There's more to the story than what we already know. Wish we knew.

10. Maroon 5 would've made it big with a song called... "HJ Train"

Ok... not really the complete truth. But in 2007, the band recorded a skit with close friend Jonah Hill about making a song inappropriately titled... "HJ Train". Yes. A song about hand jobs and hookers. You can listen to it below.

Maroon 5 Confirm 'We Have Strength In Numbers' Tour Later This Year

Maroon 5 performing at Rodeo Houston in March 2014.
Maroon 5 have confirmed a tour to happen later this year worldwide, sources say

Earlier this week, Maroon 5 performed a concert at the annual Rodeo Houston show in Houston where bassist Mickey Madden and guitarist James Valentine were interviewed by the media crew. When asked by an eager Maroon 5 fan over Twitter about the band embarking on a tour in the coming months, Madden responded stating "before the end of the year, but nothing's set in stone, yet."

Today (Sat, March 15), a newsletter was sent out to fan club members over at S.I.N. saying that the band will be embarking on a worldwide tour later this year.

"MAROON 5 is taking their live show to cities around the world this year," the announcement stated straight away in the letter. "...the SIN Club aims to keep you in step with the band." But we would like to keep everyone informed on the official announcement.

There are no confirmed tour dates or venue destinations as of today. Is it possible that this newly-brewed worldwide tour will be in support of the band's fifth album?

A photo surfaced on Twitter from user @ricelevine of the announcement from the email. Check it out.

Adam Levine About Cussing, Calls Out Blake Shelton & Talks New Album on Chelsea Lately

Adam Levine.
Adam Levine cusses with Chelsea Handler and hints at a new Maroon 5 album

Yesterday (Wed, Mar. 12) Maroon 5 singer and songwriter Adam Levine sat down with Chelsea Handler on her talk show on E! News to promote his stint on The Voice. Levine beings the interview cussing with Handler and talking about vulgar language on reality shows (in which they both know much about). Throughout the interview, Handler compliments Adam's music and how people should "add those songs [to their playlist] at the gym because they're good pump-up songs." Following that up, Levine outshines Voice coach Blake Shelton and jokes about his "drunk"-y relationship with him on the NBC hit reality show.

When asked about a new album by Chelsea, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine confronts with an honest, liberal answer stating "I'm making one right now. I'm actually going from here to the studio to continue to process [the album]."

Maroon 5 Among Top Most Paid 'Money Makers' List

Mickey Madden (left), Jesse Carmichael, James Valentine, Adam Levine, and Matt Flynn (right).
Billboard's top 40 highest paid musicians list includes Maroon 5, Adam Levine and more

The top forty highest paid money makin' musicians were officially announced yesterday (Tues, Mar. 10) on Billboard magazine's website. Among the list is Adam Levine and pop rock group Maroon 5 at No. 7 with a total net worth of $22.2 million, on the list. Among the band, other musicians such as The Rolling Stones, Beyonce, Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake, and of the course the most paid musician of the last year, Taylor Swift with an upwards balance of nearly $40 million.

According to the Billboard article, frontman Adam Levine, 34, may be best-known for his role on NBC’s The Voice, but his band’s top 10 standing is due primarily to its tour revenue, which totaled upwards of $17.6 million in 2013. The tally included the group’s headlining slot on the 12th run of the annual Honda Civic Tour, along with a hometown bow at the Hollywood Bowl. The band’s track sales, meanwhile — including “Payphone,” which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100; “One More Night,” which topped the Hot 100 for nine consecutive weeks; and “Daylight,” which went to No. 7 — racked up a total of 7.6 million, worth $1.4 million, which almost equaled Maroon 5’s royalties on catalog album sales.
