It WILL be soon before long until The Grammy Foundation reveals the entire list of nominees and categories for the upcoming 58th Annual Grammy Awards. The full list will be announced next Monday, December 7.
But one thing millions and millions of music fans are biting their nails over are if their favorite artists and bands will be (deservingly) nominated for an awards or awards. I know personally for fans of Maroon 5, it is almost always a surprise when Maroon 5 becomes nominated. Over the coarse of ten long years, Maroon 5 has been nominated for 11 Grammy Awards and only winning three of those nominations.
Maroon 5's first win at the Grammy Awards was at the 47th Annual ceremony in 2005 when they were nominated for Best New Artist. Up against Los Lonely Boys, Joss Stone, Gretchen Wilson, and the most popular rapper alive Kanye West, Maroon 5 prevailed and won the Best New Artist award. Frontman Adam Levine has spoken about the win several times in numerous interviews over the past decade saying it was "surprises" and the band was collectively "shocked" that they won over West. The same year, the Los Angeles rockers were nominated for Best Pop Performance Duo/Group for their single "She Will Be Loved." Despite high hopes that Maroon 5 would win their first two Grammys in one night, "She Will Be Loved" lost to "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys; "My Immortal" by Evanescence, "The Reason" by Hoobastank, and "It's My Life" by No Doubt" also among nominees. The very next year, at the 48th Grammy Awards, Maroon 5 were up for their third Grammy nomination, but this time for their single "This Love" for Best Pop Performance Duo/Group and won. Being their second Grammy win, Maroon 5 were considered one of the hottest rock bands in pop music in the 2000's.
Just two years later, Maroon 5 were nominated for two awards. "Makes Me Wonder" was nominated for Best Pop Performance By a Duo/Group with Vocal and won, making it the group's third and final win, to date. Maroon 5's second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, however lost to Back to Black by Amy Winehouse. "Winning a Grammy is one of the biggest landmarks any band could hope to achieve [...]", said Adam Levine about Maroon 5's third Grammy win at the 2009 American Music Awards red carpet.
"Won't Go Home Without You" and "If I Never See Your Face Again", featuring recording artist Rihanna, each received nominations for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, respectively the next year at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, however each lost. 2011 saw Maroon 5 being nominated for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals for their single "Misery", yet lost again. "Moves Like Jagger", featuring Christina Aguilera, became one of the best-selling singles worldwide during its time on the charts, and was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, and lost.
The last time Maroon 5 were recognized at the Grammys was in 2013. "Payphone", featuring Wiz Khalifa, was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo/Group and lost to "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye and Kimbra, and Maroon 5's fourth album, Overexposed, was up for Best Pop Vocal Album and lost to Kelly Clarkson's Stronger.
Now, it being a brand new year, we are hoping that Maroon 5 get recognized at the 58th annual Grammy Awards next year. A self-evident assumption would be that "Sugar", arguably one of Maroon 5's biggest hit singles of all time and the third single off of V, would be nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Another popular guess among music critics and fans, according to Billboard magazine, is that Maroon 5 being nominated for Artist of The Year. Maroon 5's overpowering impact on pop music was evident in the past year with V becoming the band's first chart-topping album since 2007 and it achieving a platinum-selling status in a short amount of time. "Sugar" nearly became Maroon 5's fourth #1 single in the U.S. after peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling over 3.1 million digital copies since March of this year.
