Everything we know so far about Maroon 5's next album

Maroon 5.
Maroon 5's sixth LP is expected to come out in 2017

Maroon 5 has got to be one of the busiest bands in pop music at the moment. The L.A. group is currently embarking on their headlining North American tour with Tove Lo, R. City, and PHASES, and in-and-out of multiple studios, guitarist James Valentine is venturing into his own career as a guitar connoisseur, bassist Mickey is working on his solo project, same with PJ Morton, and Adam Levine is currently a coach on NBC's hit show The Voice for his eleventh consecutive season.

But despite all of these activities, this doesn't stop the three time Grammy Award-winning band from staying true to their fans and why they are passionate about music in the first place. At the start of this year, members of Maroon 5 have teased and leaked some forms of information about their upcoming sixth full-length studio effort. But, news about Maroon 5's follow-up to 2014's V didn't start surfacing until Valentine mentioned the album's progress during a live Facebook interview with The Huffington Post last month. "We have some more songs in various states of progress that we'll be working on at the end of this year and the beginning of next year", Valentine also states in the HuffPost interview.

Here's what we can confirm so far about the project.

The lead single will be "Don't Want to Know": "Don't Want to Know" is the new song Maroon 5 have been performing live on their newest North American headlining tour, which began on September 3rd in San Antonio. It's a pretty chill-structured song, featuring an easy-listening guitar riff that is held throughout the song's entirety from Valentine while cute synths and snaps float in the background. Levine croons "I don't wanna know know know know/Who's taking you home home home home/I'm loving you so so so so/The way I used to love you, oh".

It has also been uncertain if the song's title is actually "Don't Wanna Know", or "Don't Want to Know". BMI has it listed as "Don't Wanna Know", whereas the group's stage setlist for the 2016 U.S. tour has it listed as "Don't Want to Know". Either or, fans are eager to hear the final studio version of the single.

A music video for "Don't Want to Know" has been filmed: It's not a big secret to Maroon 5 fans that the group shot footage for a music video in downtown Los Angeles. On August 27th, photos surfaced online of the band dressed up in weird, Pokémon-styled spin-off costumes prancing around and dancing to the song's downtempo beat. Vince Vaughn, one of the most popular actors in modern comedy, will star in the music video as he was also photographed in a goofy Pokémon-like outfit on set. Valentine confirmed in his Huffington Post interview last month that David Dobkin, director of Wedding Crashers, returned as director for the video, after he directed and produced Maroon 5's controversial, yet nonetheless amazing "Sugar" music video.

Benny Blanco, Ammar Malik, and Jacob Kasher are producing the album: Some familiar names are returning to the line-up of producers who will be working on Maroon 5's upcoming sixth album. Benjamin Levin, also known as Benny Blanco, co-wrote and produced "Don't Want to Know", and has worked on numerous other Maroon 5 hits; "Payphone", featuring Wiz Khalifa, "Maps", and "Animals" to name a few. Ammar Malik, whose most popular nowadays for his work with boybands Rixton, The Vamps, One Direction, and 5 Seconds of Summer, returned to also produce and co-write "Don't Want to Know". BMI has given some other names as to who is producing the album, including Jacob Hindlin Kasher (Britney Spears, Trey Songz, Juicy J), John Ryan (Pitbull, Nick Jonas), and Joshua "Ammo" Coleman (Jason Derulo, Mike Posner, Selena Gomez).

Maroon 5 will begin tracking in late 2016: James Valentine spilled a lot of news about the band's sixth album in that interview with The Huffington Post last month. To quote Valentine on the timeline of the upcoming project, he stated "We have some more songs in various states of progress that we'll be working on at the end of this year and the beginning of next year." It sounds like the band will spend a lengthy amount of time in the studio during the first half of 2017 as well.

It will have a Songs About Jane approach: Valentine also said that him and the rest of the band would like to take the same musical direction similar to that of Songs About Jane. "The last couple of records we have experimented with a lot more electronic, more dance-oriented sounds and we've talked about making a record that was maybe a little more organic, back to the Songs About Jane sort of approach, but we'll have to see," he mentioned to HuffPost.

Maroon 5 debut chill new single live in San Antonio

Maroon 5 kicked off their 2016 U.S. headlining tour with a bang, debuting a new stage design, new set list, and a performing a brand new song.

The new song, to which the title is unknown, was debuted live on Saturday night's live concert in San Antonio, the first date on the band's tour. The song is suspected to be the band's brand new upcoming single. During the live performance, frontman Adam Levine is seen at the head of the stage arrow serenading with the song's beautifully-flowing lyrics, "The way I used to love you oh, oh, oh, oh, oh", while James Valentine plays this chill-vibe of a guitar riff, Matt Flynn plays an electronic drum set, and PJ Morton plays keys. The song sounds familiar to that of the works of DJ Snake or Major Lazer's work, and is very similar to RAC's single "Cheap Sunglasses".

Viable titles for this new song could include "Don't Wanna Know", "Used to Love You", or "Love You So", but this has not been confirmed.

In an interview with entertainment outlet Huffington Post on Facebook that occurred on Tuesday, August 23, Valentine confirmed that a new music video for group's the new single was filmed recently and was directed by film director David Dobkin, who directed and produced Maroon 5's music video for "Sugar", one of the biggest and best-selling singles of 2015.

"We have some more songs in various states of progress that we'll be working on at the end of this year and the beginning of next year", Valentine also states in the HuffPost interview. After being asked about what direction Maroon 5 is heading into musically for the next full-length, he said "The last couple of records we have experimented with a lot more electronic, more dance-oriented sounds and we've talked about making a record that was maybe a little more organic, back to the Songs About Jane sort of approach, but we'll have to see."

The new single and its music video are expected to drop this fall, prior to the conclusion of Maroon 5's headlining U.S. tour in October.
